Taste of Heaven

“What’s that smell? It’s delicious.”
“She is cooking. Would you like to taste some of this?”

“Wow. You never told me about her before?”
“I am sorry, Eve. I found her sometime back.”

“Found her? When did you loose her?”
“Umm….Actually, she has always been around. Like a large,white,soft and fluffy cloud. Always hovering over my head. Trying to protect me from the harsh sun. When she is overwhelmed, she drenches me with rain, when she is proud, she hides behind a rainbow and smiles. Many a times, she would scare me with her thundering noise. But I still never noticed her all these years.”

“That’s strange. How could you not?”
“The way a fish doesn’t see water. Sometimes, we don’t see people who are very close to us.”

“Hmmm….I know what you are saying? So, how do you plan to make up for your self centered behaviour ?”
“Well…I notice her now. I think about her often. I couldn't find a word to thank her.
Do you know, she carries a part of heaven with her always. Her eyes have a heavenly sparkle, and her touch feels like heaven too. It’s full of love, tenderness and perfection. And she cooks like heaven too. God told me they used to be best friends.”

“Hmmm..no wonder. I wish I had met her before as well.”
“It's not too late, Eve.

Hey! I just realized that you look like her.”
“I know. You look like her too.”

“ I want to tell God to make me her mirror image.”
“Good idea. Let’s speak to Him together.”

Eve was walking around the garden in search of something to eat. She doesn’t like walking too much, but God has said, “ I have created the Garden of life for you. Whenever you are hungry, walk around, pluck your own fruits and feed your own self. But, remember to sow the seeds for future, tend to the garden and be thankful for everything”

So, Eve thanks Him all the time.

Yesterday, while she was walking, the sun suddenly woke up and stretched himself. He was bright and warm, enveloping her with his sudden scorching heat.
Eve nearly fainted.
She looked around for help and some comfort.
And then she saw him.

A tall, luscious, green tree with his trunk nearly reaching the heaven. She ran towards him, embracing his branches, feeling the gentle breeze under his shadow. Her tiny sweat beads were slowly melting with tears of joy.
Soon, she was behind the dark curtains of sweet slumber.
When she woke up in the evening, she looked up at the tree and was grateful.
He was generous, loving, mighty and tall.
“Thank you Mr. Tree. You are always so kind.”
Eve waved at him and walked away.

“Did you just thank the tree?”
“Yes, Eve. I did. He is wonderful. He is beautiful. He is generous. I love him.”

“Hmm…true. Did you thank the grass you slept on?”
“Huh!!! Grass?”

“I mean the tiny and seemingly insignificant grass that lets you crush him while you sleep. The grass that you never notice, you tread upon and take for granted. If there were stones on that ground, then the generosity of the tree would not have been enough. Most of us only notice the strong and mighty ones. The ones who are visible, obvious and powerful. But we forget the ones who are unassuming, essential and humble.

Soft, gentle, kind and unselfish, the grass lets you sleep in his lap. He caresses you while you drift away in your dreams at the cost of his existence. He touches your cheek with heavnely dew when it's time to wake you up. He reminds you to look above. And, he keeps you grounded. He loves you unconditionally. Parts of him die everytime you sleep, but he never complains. It's sad that you only notice the mighty tree, and not the loving grass."
“I never thought about this. I am sorry for not saying this before. But, Thank you dear Grass. For all the things you do for me. For not being apparent, but always being there. For risking your life without a word. I owe my sleep to you.”

I want to thank all the trees in my life. But this one is Dedicated to the Grass in my life.

Out in the fields with God!

Eve has a song floating in her head.

She hums it. Believes in it. Marvels at it.

Finally, she decided to sing it aloud.
